This week it was back to school for students and a return to work for many parents after the Christmas break. And after a week of routine and waking up early, which may have felt longer given the time off, you might need a break. Cue the weekend.

Below is a list of some of the events taking place in Toronto, but there is always something going on in your little corner of the world.

Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival
Organizers of the festival at the TIFF Lightbox say those who come out will see the north in a whole new light. From Friday through Jan. 21, films celebrating contemporary Canadian cinema will be screened. All films must have been directed by a Canadian citizen or resident and must include Canada as an official country of production.

Toronto Tango Marathon
At the start of each year, many make a New Year’s resolution to get in shape and lose weight. Some buy a fancy workout machine while others drops hundreds of dollars for gym memberships. But soon, you get tired of the routine and need something new to spice things up. So, if your plan is to incorporate fun in your exercise, the Toronto Tango Marathon is your ticket to a great time. Starting Friday and running until Sunday, Argentinian tango will take over the Lithuanian House on Bloor Street West. Brunch will be served during the afternoon session, with snacks and refreshments in the evening.

Toronto International Boat Show
If you are not really a winter person and would rather sail around the Great Lakes, then head on down to the boat show this weekend. The Toronto International Boat Show, which is the largest in North America, is being held at the Enercare Centre from Jan. 12-21. The event features the latest boats and related accessories, seminars, contests, and more. There is also an indoor lake, so you can dream of warmer days at the cottage.

The Franchise Expo
Ever dreamed about owning our own business? That dream can become a reality this weekend at the The Franchise Expo. New business and franchise opportunities will be available from 140 vendors. It’s the largest “own your own business event” in the country. It runs at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday Club at the ROM
A Saturday version of the Summer Club program returns this weekend, providing children with lots of fun, from educational activities and science experiments to art programs and interesting galleries. The Saturday Club runs for eight Saturdays until March 3, and includes morning and afternoon sessions. Alternatively, register for a full day and get a discount.

Dylan screening at Hot Docs
If you are a Bob Dylan fan or just love music, the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema will be screening Trouble No More — a documentary that features rare footage of Dylan’s performances in Toronto and Buffalo. The film focuses on the singer-songwriter’s gospel period, in particular, the three albums he released between 1979 and 1981 that tap into his spiritual side. The screening is at 9 p.m. Saturday.
