Abandoned baby story may have been fabricated: police source

Toronto police have found the mother of a newborn baby that was reportedly discovered naked and abandoned in a west end laneway, but a police source tells 680 NEWS the story may have been fabricated.
The police source says investigators are questioning the validity of the account, and they are trying to determine if the mother, who is being treated at hospital, made the story up.
Police originally said the baby was found in a laneway behind a commercial building in the city’s west end just before 11 a.m. and that a passerby brought the infant indoors before calling police.
Police do not yet know when or where the baby was born.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the baby to the hospital. A spokeswoman said the baby was in critical but non-life-threatening condition.
An investigation is ongoing.
