Stolen van carrying more than a dozen dogs recovered in Whitby; animals safe

Durham Regional police say a stolen van that was carrying 13 to 15 dogs has been recovered in Whitby and the animals were not harmed.

Police are in the process of reuniting the animals with their owners.

Constable George Tudos told 680 News that a female dog walker was approached by the suspect around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning near Garden Street and Manning Road, which is in the Rossland Road and Brock Street area.

The vehicle, a white 2008 Chevrolet Uplander, was stolen and police put out a warning that the suspect is to be considered armed.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.
