OPP closer to finding vehicle involved in fatal QEW crash

Ontario provincial police are getting closer to finding a vehicle they believe was indirectly involved in a fatal chain-reaction crash on the Toronto-bound QEW.
It happened Saturday night just east of Cawthra Road and claimed the life of 22-year-old Nicole Turcotte.
Around 10 p.m., police say a car going east on the QEW in Mississauga suddenly moved into the left lane in front of a line of cars and hit the brakes — causing five vehicles to slam into one another.
Police say the driver of the car who allegedly started the crash then drove away, fleeing the scene without a scratch. They’re calling the crash an alleged act of road rage.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Scmidt said they have been flooded with tips about the car they are looking for.
“(It’s) believed to be a 2010 or newer Honda Civic, either silver or beige in colour, with a partial plate marker of CEAT followed by several digits,” he said.
Police are also appealing for a transport truck driver, who would have had a good view of the crash.
“We don’t believe that vehicle is involved in any way but I’m sure that driver would have a very valuable perspective,” Schmidt said.
On Tuesday, Turcotte’s cousin, Brandy Sommer Wood, urged the driver responsible for the crash to come forward.
“Just turn yourself in,” Wood said. “How can you live with knowing that you’ve done something like this? Even if it was just an incident of anger, you’ve changed so many people’s lives.”
It’s a plea echoed by police.
“Do the right thing,” Schmidt said. “Come in. Make yourself available to the detectives.”
