SIU called in after man seriously injured in Oshawa crash

The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was seriously injured in a crash in Oshawa overnight.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Durham police stopped a car near Townline and Nash roads.

After a brief conversation with the driver — a 25-year-old man — and his 26-year-old passenger the driver allegedly sped off and police began a chase.

Soon after, the driver lost control of his car, which flipped and hit a pole on Townline, north of Taunton.

The SIU said the driver then ran away, but was later arrested with the help of a police dog.

The driver and his passenger, who had a serious injury, were taken to hospital.

The SIU said it’s investigating one officer and questioning six officers who witnessed the incident.
