The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in King City.

Investigators say Ontario Provincial Police observed a vehicle travelling south on Spring Hill Drive around 10 p.m. Thursday night. The vehicle then turned left onto King Road and began travelling east in the westbound lanes.

Police made a u-turn and began following the vehicle in order to further investigate the driver.

The SIU says a short time later, the vehicle crashed into a concrete pylon on the north side of King Road just west of Dufferin Street.

A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital with multiple fractures. Police confirm that she is also in custody.

Alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.
