Man arrested after shots fired at car in Parkdale

A 21-year-old man has been charged after shots were fired at a car while people were sitting inside on Friday night.

It happened around 7:15 p.m. on Queen Street West, near Lansdowne Avenue, in Parkdale.

Police said four men got into a fight, and one of them pulled a black handgun out of his pants and fired several shots at two men who were trying to flee in a car.

“The vehicle was running and during the altercation it did start to move,” an officer said. “I’m not sure at what point the shots were fired, but they were in the vehicle and it was running.”

Two bullets went through the vehicle’s rear window, and one man smashed the windshield with a stick. Neither of the men in the car was injured.

Police arrested Carlos Swaby-Palacios, in the area soon after. He faces 12 charges including assault with a weapon and several firearms offences.

He appeared in court on Saturday.

“It’s extremely brazen,” the officer said. “Firearms are a big issue in Toronto. It was 7:15 p.m. A lot of residents and a lot of people out on the street. It’s a mild night. So, it’s pretty dangerous.”

Police said they would be collecting security video and interviewing witnesses as part of the investigation.

Earlier, police said a second person had been charged, but they didn’t provide any further details.
