Firefighter injured while battling blaze on Mutual Street

A firefighter was injured while responding to a blaze in the Gerrard and Mutual streets area overnight.

Toronto fire responded to a fire at an abandoned three storey row house at 189 Mutual Street around 3:00 a.m.

While battling the blaze, a firefighter fell approximately 30 feet from the roof of the building. Toronto fire says he was taken to hospital with broken ribs. He has since been released from hospital.

The building has been the scene of two other fires over the last year. A man was arrested for arson for an incident at the same address in October 2017.

Toronto fire says this is the seventh fire at an abandoned building in the city since October.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
