Yonge-Bloor subway station evacuated as suspicious package rendered safe

By News Staff

A major subway thoroughfare in downtown Toronto was evacuated for several hours Saturday afternoon following reports of a suspicious package on the subway platform.

Toronto police say a TTC employee called just before 4 p.m. to say someone had left a case, similar in size to a camera case, unattended on the southbound platform of the Yonge-Bloor station.

Service on both Line 1 and 2 was suspended and the bomb squad was called in as a precaution to investigate.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police confirmed that the package had been ‘rendered safe’. Shortly thereafter full subway service resumed on both Line 1 and 2.
