Pedestrian struck on Hwy. 401 near Morningside

A 67-year-old man is in hospital after he was hit by a car on Highway 401 near Morningside Avenue during the morning rushhour.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 7 a.m. on Thursday.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the man suffered head injuries.

His injuries were originally considered to be life-threatening but his condition has since improved.

A source told 680 NEWS reporter Carl Hantske that it appears the man may have walked onto the highway.

The collision caused two right lanes of the eastbound collectors to be closed for several hours. The section of highway fully reopened just after 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, drivers faced another traffic issue on the same stretch of highway.

A vehicle flipped over in the second lane of the eastbound collectors approaching Bayview Avenue just after 7 a.m.

All occupants were able to get out of the overturned vehicle.

Schmidt said only minor injuries were reported.
