One man dead after car hits tree in Richmond Hill

By News Staff

A 38-year-old Toronto man is dead following a crash late Sunday afternoon in Richmond Hill.

York regional police were called to the intersection of Spadina and Weldrick roads just before 4 p.m.

The disintegrated remains of a Jaguar were strewn across the roadway after it struck a tree at what appears to be a high rate of speed for the residential neighbourhood, according to police.

Two men were rushed to hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. One of them, believed to be the passenger in the car, later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver, a 70-year-old man from Richmond Hill, is expected to survive.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
