Driver injured in Etobicoke crash appears to have gunshot wounds

Toronto police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Etobicoke that may also be connected to a shooting.

Police were called to the Kipling Avenue and Longfield Road area, near Eglinton Avenue West, around 12:15 p.m. on Monday.

It appears a car went off the road and onto a lawn, crashing into a fence next to a home.

Police initially said it was a car crash, but paramedics reported that the injuries are “consistent with gunshot wounds.”

“We were preparing to assist ambulance with an emergency run to hospital, when we were informed the paramedics believed the injuries that the man had suffered were not from the collision, they were from gunshot wounds,” Const. David Hopkinson said.

The man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

It is not yet known if the man was shot while driving or after the crash.
