Toronto police are looking for a suspected shoplifter who slashed a security officer at a Walmart in Scarborough.
The incident happened at the Walmart Scarborough East Supercentre on Miler Avenue, near Sheppard Avenue East and Morningside Avenue, around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police say the man stole some items and tried to leave the store, when a loss prevention officer tried to arrest him.
That’s when the man pulled out an edged weapon and slashed the officer. The suspect then ran off.
In a tweet on Wednesday, police said the guard’s injuries are minor. However, on Thursday, police said he suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital.
Police have released a security camera image of the suspect. He is described as black, between 18-24 years old, around six-feet tall and a thin build. He has black hair and was clean-shaven. At the time, he was wearing a black puffy spring coat over a white hooded top with the hood over his head, black pants, and carried a black backpack.
Police say he is considered armed, extremely violent and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should call 911.
