Toronto police are searching for one suspect and appealing for witnesses after a 25-year-old man was shot and killed in North York overnight.
Det.-Sgt. Mike Carbone says officers were called to 415 Driftwood Avenue near Jane Street around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning following reports of gunshots.
The body of a 25-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body and pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Karim Hirani.
Carbone says the victim and two others purchased some alcohol and proceeded to a nearby courtyard next to a pedestrian bridge to begin drinking. An unknown male suspect then exits a car and approaches the three men and begins shooting the victim.
The suspect then fled the scene in a car. He’s described as black, in his mid-20s and was wearing a hooded sweat shirt and dark pants.
Carbone says it appears the shooting was targeted but they do not yet have a motive. He says Hirani was not from the neighbourhood and it’s unclear what he was doing there.
Police are appealing to any other witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting and would like to speak to one of the males who was with the deceased prior to being shot to come foward.
