Police in York Region have made an arrest after video of a brazen daylight sex assault was released.

Security video posted by police on Thursday showed a man appearing to sexually assault a 47-year-old woman while she mowed her lawn.

It happened Saturday around 3:30 p.m. near Bayview Avenue and Wellington Street East in Aurora.

The video shows a man sneak up behind a woman as she’s cutting her grass. The man pulls his shorts down and pulls the woman towards him.

The woman turns and pushes him away. They briefly exchange words before the man walks away.

Police said that thanks to multiple tips and information from members of the community, a 23-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening and charged with one count of sexual assault.

“This fast response assisted us in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion and shows that our citizens are equally committed to a safe and secure community,” Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a release.

Police said that “due to circumstances associated with the accused” his identity is not being released.
