1 woman dead, another critically injured in violent Etobicoke stabbing

An 84-year-old woman is dead following a double-stabbing in Etobicoke.

Police say they were called to a plaza in the area of Kipling Avenue and Dixon Road just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Paramedics say a 32-year-old female was transported to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Her condition was later upgraded to stable.

Eleven minutes later, paramedics were called to a nearby residence where an elderly woman was found without vital signs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman has been identified as as Elena Marcucci, 84, of Toronto.

Police say 31-year-old Michael Colastosti of Toronto was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He appear in court on Sunday and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on October 5.

Police say they believe the two incidents are related but would not elaborate on what the connection might be between the two victims and the suspect.
