Man airlifted to hospital after shooting in Ajax

A 23-year-old man is in hospital after an overnight shooting in Ajax.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at a house on Smith Lane, near Westney Road and Rossland Road West, just before 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

When they arrived they found the victim in the backyard, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Area residents told police they heard several shots fired.

The victim was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition. Police say his condition is now considered serious but stable.

There has been no word on suspects.

In a separate, unrelated incident, a 21-year-old Toronto man was transported to a Toronto trauma centre suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

Police say there was a disturbance involving several males on Oxford Street south of Mill Street in Oshawa just after 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Witnesses tell police they heard a gunshot and several males were seen fleeing the area in a light coloured vehicle.
