A 20-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge after his father was stabbed to death in Etobicoke.

The stabbing happened on Redgrave Drive, near Martin Grove Road and Eglinton Avenue West, around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say the two men were involved in an altercation when the father was stabbed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as 50-year-old Ameer Saib of Toronto.

A woman, who police say is the suspect’s mother, attempted to intervene and suffered minor injuries. She was assessed at the scene and was not taken to hospital.

The suspect, identified as Noah Saib, fled the scene and was involved in a single-vehicle crash near Highway 401 and Islington Avenue. He was rushed to hospital with serious stab wounds, and has since been arrested.

All eastbound collector lanes of the 401 were closed between Dixon Road and Islington during rush hour.

It is really sad to see the number of homicides from shootings and stabbings in Toronto soar to record highs. It seems that most if not all of the criminal element are packing guns and/or knives and this is the new norm to settle fights and/or disputes. Since carding has been done away with, the criminal element are not afraid to carry firearms and they have very little fear of using them. Capital punishment was done away with in the early 1960’s but I think that it is time for the federal government to bring it back because if the feds don’t take this matter seriously we will end up with super high homicide rates just like they have in major US cities. As well, these judges need to get their act together and give out the maximum penalty for serious charges such as murder and attempted murder. The
whole justice system is a joke compared to the harsh penalties that are handed out in the USA to violent offenders there. Once again thw federal government needs to abolish the Young Offenders Act which is a huge failure and an absolute joke in terms of dealing with young offenders who commit violent crimes.
