Coun. Sarah Doucette won’t run for re-election under new ward boundaries

Longtime Toronto city councillor Sarah Doucette says she won’t run for re-election under the new 25 ward system, clearing the way for Coun. Gord Perks.
“I have made the difficult decision not to run for re-election under the 25 Ward system,” she said in a statement.
“It is clear to me that having my friend and colleague Gord Perks at City Council is essential to help the City to move forward in the right direction.”
Doucette has been the councillor in Ward 13 since 2010.
Her profile on the city of Toronto website cites saving the High Park Zoo, the Lambton bus, and the Runnymede CI and Keele PS pools, as some of her proudest accomplishments. “She has also stopped cuts to our library hours and TTC services, while successfully expanding childcare services,” her profile adds.
The provincial government’s Bill 5 sought to cut the number of wards from 47 to 25.
A judge found the legislation unconstitutional, but Premier Doug Ford resurrected the bill by invoking the notwithstanding clause for the first time ever in Ontario on Wednesday. The Bill passed first reading.
