By News Staff

The third shooting in less than 24 hours in the GTA has claimed the life of a teenage male.

Police were called to the area of Birchmount Road and Bonis Avenue, near Sheppard Avenue East around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Homicide detectives say a male, believed to be 18-years-old, was shot in the parking lot of a plaza.

Paramedics transported the victim to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Detectives say the victim was in the company of two to three other individuals when the shooting occurred. Police are looking to speak with those people.

Detectives say they are looking for one shooter at this time who was seen fleeing the area southbound on Birchmount Road. They have a vague description of the suspect but are hoping to provide more details once they get a look at surveillance video in the area of the shooting.

At the height of the shooting, police say four schools were put into lockdown and hold and secure. Those have all been lifted and students in those schools were released.
