Watermain break closes stretch of Bayview Avenue

By News Staff

A watermain break has closed Bayview Avenue in both directions between River Street and Labatt Avenue.

The city’s water department said Friday the road will likely remain closed until around noon the next day.

However, on Saturday the city said the repairs are will take longer than previously estimated.

The watermain break is close to other underground facilities including gas and hydro lines making the repair process more complicated.

“We anticipate the work to continue throughout the weekend with the road being reopened for Monday morning rush hour,” said City of Toronto spokeswoman Diala Homaidan

Bayview Avenue will be fully closed in both directions between River Street and Labatt Avenue during the repairs.

The watermain, which dates back as far as the 1890s, broke at around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

No residential properties have been affected.
