A 23-year-old man is dead after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle that crashed on Highway 410 in Mississauga, and Peel police believe he was murdered.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near Courtney Park Drive just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

It appears the vehicle was heading northbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, it veered off into a ditch.

Paramedics said the driver was without vital signs upon arrival. He was rushed to hospital where he later died. Police have since identified him as Jason Ramkishun, from Brampton.

Peel police said the vehicle showed signs of gunshot evidence but there has been no word on where the shooting took place.

“We don’t know what happened … (OPP) got the call as a single vehicle accident into a ditch. Investigation later revealed there’s more to it than just that … this is a shooting now and the homicide unit is involved,” Const. Harinder Sohi explained.

The northbound lanes of the 410 were closed for several hours for the investigation.
