A 19-year veteran with Peel police is facing multiple counts of assault stemming from two separate on-duty incidents in 2017.
A seven-month long investigation into assault allegations against Sergeant Badal Kaushal began in March, at which time he was suspended with pay.
The first alleged incident happened on May 21, 2017 in Brampton. Police say two women, a 44-year-old and a 33-year-old, suffered minor injuries.
Kaushal was charged Friday with two counts of assault and one count of assault with a weapon.
Another assault charge was laid against Kaushal in an alleged incident that happened on July 23, 2017. A 53-year-old man sustained minor injuries.
Police have not released any further details.
Police Chief Jennifer Evans said they are committed to ensuring transparency and maintaining the public’s confidence when dealing with allegations of police misconduct.
She added an internal investigation was launched immediately upon learning of the allegations.
Kaushal is expected to appear in court on December 17.
