Metric and July Talk team up for ‘Super Jam’

By Lindsay Dunn

It’s rare that two bands at the top of the charts will team up for a tour, but for Canadian music fans Christmas has come early.

Earlier this week, Metric announced they will be going on a North American tour with Canadian indie music darlings July Talk.

“We met about three years ago and knew somehow we would work together,” Jimmy Shaw of Metric told CityNews. “It just felt like it was the time to bring everyone together and just have this Canadian super jam!”

Metric is currently riding high off of their album “Art of Doubt,” which debuted at #1 in the fall.

“From my perspective, It’s a great thing we get to do every couple of years when we make a record,” Metric’s lead singer Emily Haines said. “We get to put together a dream tour where all the hard work and every little club that we played along the way over the years pays off. To be able to have a finale in our hometown too, it is really meaningful for us.”

For July Talks’ Leah Fay, it’s also a dream come true.

“It’s pretty wild,” Fay responded when asked about touring with Metric. “Being from Toronto and growing up here, I would listen to music by Metric and Emily with Broken Social Scene. It’s a pretty wild ride we get to be on. I am very excited but also overwhelmed.’

With each band selling out shows on their own, this 12-show arena tour takes the scenic route from the Prairies to the Big Smoke. Metric just finished a lengthy European tour which included their first show in Russia while July Talk has been busy in the studio working on a new album.

“I think it it’s kind of cool because we are different phases,” July Talks Peter Dreimanis said. “They just toured a lot of the record and we will be introducing new music to the audience. It will be a fun passing of the torch as they come home for the final amazing big tour and we are just kind of getting to joining them starting out the process of our new record. It really is a dream tour.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale to the general public on December 14.
