3 Toronto cops found not guilty in sex assault face police tribunal

By News staff

Three Toronto police officers previously charged with sexually assaulting a female colleague made their first appearance in front of a police tribunal on Thursday.

Leslie Nyznik, Sameer Kara and Joshua Cabero were found not guilty last year in connection with the alleged incident on Jan. 17, 2015.

The woman — a parking enforcement officer whose identity is protected by a publication ban — had testified in court that after drinking at various bars together, the officers had non-consensual sex with her at a downtown hotel.

The three officers are facing discreditable conduct charges under the Police Services Act. They pleaded not guilty.

Their next appearance at the tribunal is on January 29.

The officers are currently suspended with pay.

Based on the tribunal’s rulings in each case, the officers could either lose their jobs or be reinstated, or face other penalties.
