Police identify man shot and killed in Jane and Finch area

Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed in the Jane Street and Finch Avenue West area.

The shooting happened Tuesday around 6:15 a.m. outside an apartment building on San Romanoway.

The man was in an SUV in front of the building along with a female passenger. Police say the pair were approached by a group who shot into the car and then fled.

Officers found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead on scene. The female passenger in the vehicle who was not injured.

Police have identified the victim as Lawrence Errol Joel John, 28, of Toronto.

The SUV he was found in remains outside the building and has shattered windows.

Police are looking for three male suspects who were seen running away. They may have gotten into a white hatchback.

“I heard several shots outside, went out the balcony, looked downstairs, saw a dark vehicle and heard (someone) screaming for help … I decided to call 911,” Favian Felicien told CityNews, a witness to the aftermath of the incident.

Investigators say they would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area just before, during or shortly after the incident.

This is Toronto’s 94th homicide of the year.
