Toronto man encounters roadblock in citizenship for surrogate twins

Joseph Tito says he spent sleepless nights since the birth of his twin girls in Kenya, filling out the required paperwork to bring them back to Canada, only to be blindsided by recent changes to Canada’s Immigration Act. Because Tito was born in Italy to a Canadian mother and moved to Canada when he was six-years-old, his newborn daughters don’t automatically inherit Canadian citizenship.

Immigration lawyer Joel Sandaluk tells Faiza Amin that while foreign surrogacy may be cheaper, there are still a number of pitfalls couples could encounter that could outweigh the financial considerations. Watch below:
