A driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car crashed into the front stoop of two homes in the Beaches.
Toronto police were called to Woodbine Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
The vehicle had crashed into the steps leading up to one residence and struck a gas line at the neighbouring home.
Resident Angelica Bailey told CityNews this is not the first time a car has crashed into her home.
“I felt the house shake…immediately I just knew what it was…I’m kind of used to the house shaking like that when someone’s been in a pretty bad accident outside,” said Bailey.
Bailey adds that there is a “horrible speeding problem” in the area and residents are wary of walking and parking on that stretch of Woodbine.
“Nobody wants to park on Woodbine there…they’re just all afraid they’re going to get hit,” said Bailey. “I walk my dogs outside. We could have just been outside…and that car would have plowed into us.”
Bailey says she called 9-1-1 when she smelled gas. She says she spoke to the female driver of the car who later stumbled and fell into a snowbank where paramedics found her.
The driver was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
She is is facing a charge of careless driving.
