Man, 24, found dead in woods near high school in Pickering

A 24-year-old man found dead in the woods near a high school in Pickering is Durham Region’s first homicide victim.
Police say a woman walking her two dogs around 7:30 a.m. on Friday found the man’s body about 150 metres north of Pine Ridge Secondary School.
He was found with obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Nicholas Samaroo of Pickering and a post-mortem has been scheduled to determine his cause of death.
Homicide investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them.
There’s no word yet on any suspects.
