Truck driver charged after tractor-trailer rollover on Hwy. 401 in Whitby

By News Staff

A 42-year-old truck driver from Montreal has been charged after a tractor-trailer rollover shut down part of Highway 401 in Whitby earlier this week.

Just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, as the GTA continued to clean up from a record-breaking snowfall, the tractor-trailer crashed into the guardrail and flipped onto its side just west of Thickson Road.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said Eddy Poulard has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The crash caused an environmental hazard in the area with the cargo — an oil product — and a diesel spill.

It took almost 17 hours for the area to be cleaned up and the section of highway to reopen.
