Suspect in custody, police officer bitten in violent assault

A police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries following an altercation at a downtown building during the course of an arrest on Friday night.

Police responded to reports a woman was being assaulted by a man in a building in the area of Yonge and Adelaide streets just after 4:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they say the suspect became irate and violently attacked one of the officers, biting him on the hand, before being taken into custody.

Police say the officer suffered a serious non-life threatening injury and was treated at hospital.

The female victim was also treated at hospital for minor injuries.
