Residents, firefighters treated for smoke inhalation after Parkdale apartment fire

By News Staff

Two residents and three Toronto firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation after a two-alarm fire at a Parkdale apartment complex on Wednesday afternoon.

Toronto Fire responded to a call at around 3:30 p.m. for smoke coming from the electrical room in the basement at 103-105 West Lodge Avenue.

Toronto Fire said three residents had to be extracted for their units.

Two residents were treated on scene by paramedics for minor smoke inhalation. Three firefighters were also treated.

No serious injuries have been reported.

Residents tell CityNews the complex remains without power more than 12 hours later.

The incident comes on the same day Mayor John Tory announced a comprehensive series of inspections would be carried out in apartment buildings around the city. A newly created group including workers from the Electrical Safety Authority, Toronto Fire and City of Toronto bylaw enforcement officers will identify which buildings in the city have some of the same risks as those damaged in the St. James Town instances, and need to be subjected to the same comprehensive inspection process.

Correction: This is a corrected article. A previous version stated that the power had been turned back on
