Man identified after fatal shooting in Rexdale

A 28-year-old man is dead after he was shot in the city’s west end.

Emergency crews were called to Bergamot Avenue, near Islington Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard, just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he later died. He has been identified as Tesfa Welsh-Hope of Toronto.

Police are searching for one suspect described as a male wearing a dark-coloured, hooded jacket. He was last seen fleeing the area southbound along a pathway toward 11 Bergamot Avenue

This is the city’s eighth homicide of the year.

As of Sunday, there have been 30 shooting incidents in the city and 39 victims — compared to 40 occurrences last year and 56 victims, which is down about 30 per cent.
