Scotiabank Arena celebrates 20 years

By Dilshad Burman

The Scotiabank Arena turned 20 years old on Wednesday – opening in 1999 as the Air Canada Centre.

Opening night was marked by the Toronto Maple Leafs playing their first game at the arena, moving from the Maple Leaf Gardens where they had played since 1931.

They won their game against the Montreal Canadiens that night, but the change of venue unfortunately did not do much for their Stanley Cup fortunes.

Even though the Leafs have not won the coveted Stanley Cup since 1967, the arena they call home still holds fond memories for many in Toronto and across the country.
