York regional police have released dashcam video that shows the driver of a stolen pickup truck ramming a police cruiser while fleeing officers in Newmarket on Tuesday.

In a release, police said officers on patrol noticed a vehicle that was parked and running, with the driver asleep behind the wheel at a restaurant in the area of Yonge Street and Dawson Manor Boulevard at around 6 p.m.

Officers approached the vehicle to check on the driver’s well-being.

The video shows two officers briefly conversing with the driver. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerates, crashing into a cruiser and fleeing southbound on Yonge Street at a high rate of speed.

The officers weren’t injured.

Police say the vehicle was reported stolen on Feb. 8 in Vaughan in what police described as a “warm-up” theft.

Police are now seeking the public’s help identifying the suspect, and finding the stolen vehicle.

The driver is described as male, brown, 40 to 55 years old. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black jacket and a red hat.

The vehicle is a grey, 2010 Honda Ridgeline with the licence plate AC90002.
