Happy Birthday Toronto! You look great for 185

By News Staff

The Toronto sign will shine blue on Wednesday to celebrate the city’s 185th birthday.

On this day in 1834, the City of Toronto became incorporated as the former Town of York and boy has it grown.

In June of that year the population of Toronto was 9,252 — compared to the over 2.81-million who call the city home now.

To mark the birthday Mayor John Tory proclaim Wednesday City of Toronto Day.

If you want to celebrate with your fellow Torontonians, head down to Nathan Phillips Square where there will be plenty to do, including live music, interactive activities, a number of local vendors will be set up for shopping, plus there will be food and, of course, skating!

And if that wasn’t celebration enough, the St. Patrick’s Day parade will end at Nathan Phillips Square on Sunday to combine two parties into one.
