Girl, 4, and boy, 13, badly injured after being struck by out-of-control vehicle

Ontario Provincial Police in Haldimand County say a four-year-old girl is fighting for her life after she and a 13-year-old boy were struck by a vehicle early Saturday afternoon.

Police say an 80-year old Norfolk County woman was sitting in her parked vehicle on Main Street when it suddenly accelerated while in reverse.

They say the vehicle crossed the road, striking an SUV before mounting a curb and hitting the two children who were walking on a sidewalk in front of their parents.

Police say the girl was pinned under the vehicle and dragged several metres before the car came to a stop when it hit a building.

The mother and father of the children rushed them to a local hospital, however, police say the girl was later airlifted to a hospital in Hamilton for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The boy’s injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

The driver of the car was also taken to hospital, but police say she wasn’t injured. The investigation is continuing and there was no immediate word on whether any charges were pending.
