Man wanted for alleged assault on Toronto police officer

A 31-year-old man is wanted for allegedly assaulting a female police officer Saturday afternoon.

Toronto police allege the man was pulled over in the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West just before 3:30 p.m.

He exited the vehicle and approach the officer and proceeded to allegedly punch her several times in the head.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on foot, southbound on Weston Road.

The police officer suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The assailant has been identified as Dwayne Banfield, 31, of Toronto and he is wanted on four charges including assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm and driving a vehicle without validated plates.

He is described as five foot seven to nine with a thin build and short braids. He was last seen wearing a bucket-style hat, a camouflage coat with a vertical zipper on the left upper arm, a name plate over the left chest bone and green pants.

Police consider him to be violent and ask anyone who may spot him, not to approach him.
