It has been a slow-go for GTA drivers on Thursday morning with three separate issues on Highway 401.

Provincial police were called to the eastbound lanes of the highway near Guelph Line in Burlington for a crash that occurred just before 5:30 a.m.

At one point, all lanes were closed. The left lane reopened around 6:30 a.m. but traffic was backed up for around 10 kilometres. The highway fully reopened around 7:30 a.m.

Police were also dealing with a vehicle fire on the westbound lanes at Lake Ridge Road in Ajax. Police were called to the area around 6 a.m. Two lanes were blocked but have since reopened.

But it has been once issue after another on that highway. Around 7:20 a.m. two eastbound lanes were blocked at Trafalgar Road in Milton due to a tractor-trailer fire.

Going from the west to the east, just one single highway through (and I do mean through) Toronto? Well, what do you expect?

It’s never going to happen ($$$$) but wouldn’t it make sense to have a “bypass” around Toronto? The best place to have a relieving “bypass” highway, unfortunately, is exactly where the current 407 is. Too bad Ontario GAVE that away.

@3.162277660168379: it was Ontario Cons who gave it away while they filled in the subway tunnel
