A 31-year-old man wanted for allegedly assaulting a female police officer Saturday afternoon is now in custody.
Toronto police allege the man was pulled over in the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West just before 3:30 p.m.
He exited the vehicle and approached the officer, allegedly punching her several times in the head.
The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on foot, southbound on Weston Road.
The police officer suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say Dwayne Banfield, 31, of Toronto turned himself in on Tuesday and has been charged with assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody and obstructing police.
