Second suspect wanted in alleged robbery, bear spray assault at Fairview Mall

By News Staff

Toronto police have arrested one man and are searching for another after a robbery and assault at Fairview Mall on Friday morning.

Officers were called to the mall around 11 a.m. after a 37-year-old man was allegedly robbed of his Breitling watch valued at more than $27,000, police said in a news release.

Security video shows the victim and another man enter the mall and they linger just inside the doors. After a few minutes, a suspect – wearing a dark parka with a hood and camo pants approaches the victim and pulls out an aerosol-type can and begins to spray the man in the face with it. The suspect then flees the scene.

The victim then becomes involved in a fierce struggle with the second man whom he walked into the mall with. The pair disappear from the camera’s view but the first suspect who sprayed the victim is seen returning and joins in the struggle. The two suspects are then seen fleeing the mall with the victim giving chase.

The mall was evacuated and 14 people were assessed by paramedics at the scene as a result of the lingering bear spay. Paramedics did not believe anyone would need to be taken to hospital.

Kyle Eric Fraser, 23, of Guelph was arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon, administer noxious substance and common nuisance.

A second suspect remains at large. He’s described as being almost six-feet tall, between 25 and 35 years of age, heavy set with short black hair and a black beard. He was wearing a grey and white track suit and white sneakers.

Police are looking for a white BMW 3-series car with a sunroof. They say the car struck another vehicle while leaving the mall and will have damage on the front passenger side as a result.

Anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle are asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
