A Brampton man is dead following a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 403 in Mississauga.

Provincial police say the crash occurred in the westbound lanes of the highway just past Winston Churchill Boulevard, ahead of the Highway 407 split at around 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police say the incident began as a minor single vehicle collision with the driver possibly suffering a medical episode while stopped on the side of the road.

Eyewitnesses on the scene say a Good Samaritan in a second vehicle stopped to assist that driver when a third car slammed into both of them, killing the driver in the first vehicle.

Visibility and weather conditions at the time are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.

Peel Paramedics say one person was pronounced dead on the scene. He has been identified as 63-year-old Kumarasamy Gunaraynam.

Five others were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A seventh person was not seriously injured and refused to be taken to hospital.
