Town hall meeting planned to help save the Eglinton East LRT

By News Staff

A town hall meeting is set to take place in Scarborough Wednesday night, calling for the need for light-rail transit along Eglinton Avenue East – running far past Kennedy Station.

The Eglinton East LRT project was first proposed in 2007 as a part of former mayor David Miller’s transit plan, but the project has yet to get the green light.

Organizers say the transit expansion from Kennedy Station to Malvern Town Centre should be a priority.

However, a report approved at the mayor’s executive committee on Tuesday does not recommend funding its construction this year.

City councillors Paul Ainslie and Jennifer McKelvie will be in attendance, along with several other members of local community organizations.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. at the mid-Scarborough hub, at Brimley Road and Eglinton.
