One person is dead after a fire broke out at a home in Roncesvalles on Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to a call for smoke coming from the door of a house on Roncesvalles Avenue at Marion Street around 10:30 p.m.
Toronto Fire told CityNews the blaze was a one-alarm fire that started in the basement of the residence, believed to be a rooming house. The fire was brought under control fairly quickly.
Initially, paramedics were requested but no injuries were reported.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Toronto police provided an update saying a male victim was discovered with serious injuries and later died.
Paramedics also treated another person for minor smoke inhalation. They say it was a bystander who called 911 and alerted residents inside to the fire.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will investigate.
