A York regional police officer has been charged with impaired driving after an off-duty collision in Whitchurch-Stouffville early Friday morning.

At around 5:30 a.m. a citizen called police after a vehicle went off the roadway and struck a guardrail near Ninth Line and Cedarvale Boulevard.

No one was hurt in the crash.

Police charged the driver, Const. Paul Thompson, with impaired driving.

Thompson, 38, has been a member of York regional police since 2006.

He has been placed on administrative duties.

“York Regional Police is committed to transparency and is accountable to our community,” Chief Eric Jolliffe said in a release.

“When we charge a member with a criminal offence, that information is released to our community as a part of that commitment.”
