Truck driver killed after being run over while working under rig: Durham police

A 55-year-old Pickering man is dead after he was run over and dragged while working underneath his truck on Sunday night.

Durham regional police said the victim was stopped at a private lot on Alliance Road in Pickering at around 11:15 p.m.

He was underneath his rig working on it when the owner of the truck company he worked for jumped into the vehicle to move it, unaware that he was underneath the rig.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The person who was moving the truck, a 22-year-old Markham man, remained on scene and tried to assist, police said.

Durham police are investigating the death and the Ministry of Labour is also probing the circumstances.

At this point, no charges have been laid.
