Ontario’s police watchdog is looking for an alleged car thief who may have been shot by an officer in Mississauga.

In a release, the SIU said Peel officers were dispatched to Marmac Road on Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m., after determining that a vehicle reported stolen was in the area.

“While police were investigating, a man approached the vehicle and entered it. He then proceeded to drive at one of the officers,” the SIU said.

The officer then fired his gun several times, striking the vehicle’s windshield.

The vehicle continued to flee until it was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Pettigrew Crescent near Winston Churchill Boulevard and The Collegeway. The suspect then fled and remains at large.

The unit says the man may or may not have been injured as a result of the shooting, and they’re asking him to contact the lead investigator on the case.
