Toronto City Hall lockdown lifted after man with gun arrested nearby

By News Staff

Toronto City Hall was put into lockdown Wednesday afternoon after a man dropped a gun while walking near the building. The lockdown was lifted around two hours later.

Police say two men were seen walking down Elizabeth Street around 2:45 p.m. when one dropped a gun on the ground. He picked it up and kept walking.

The men were found inside a building near City Hall where one was arrested. The other fled the scene in a car, likely in a taxi or Uber.

A gun has also been recovered.

An announcement inside city hall heard during the Planning and Housing Committee meeting asked those inside to head to a safe area.

An armed security guard could be seen outside during the lockdown.
