Woman drowns in Pickering helping son in choppy waters

A woman in her 30s has died after drowning in Lake Ontario in Pickering. Police say she was trying to help her son who was on a flotation device that strayed too far from shore.

A woman in her 30s drowned at Frenchmen’s Bay in Pickering while trying to help her six-year-old son in choppy waters on Sunday.

Police tell 680 NEWS the woman’s child was on a flotation device that strayed too far from the shore.

The woman was pulled from the water without vital signs. CPR was performed on the woman and she was later transported to hospital via emergency run but she did not survive.

The child didn’t sustain any injuries.
