A 32-year-old Bowmanville woman has been charged after an eight-month-old baby was left alone in a hot car at a mall parking lot on Saturday.

Police were called to the scene at the Oshawa Centre parking lot just after 4:30 p.m.

Officers broke a window and got the child out of the car. The baby was taken to a local hospital for observation and is doing well.

Police said it’s believed the child was inside the vehicle for about 45 minutes.

The child’s mother has been charged with abandoning a child under 10 years of age.
